Lancaster County Dental Assisting Society
I hope everyone is enjoying their last month of summer!
We have had a great summer with glorious weather, and definitely enough rain! For anyone who gardens, we most certainly have had great weather for it! As Shawn and I start our terms, I would like to outline what we are looking at going forward.
We are trying to implement some of the visions seen by the past council and president, Robynn Rixse. We would love to see this group, the local chapter of the ADAA, be a place where you all can jump on and say, “Help! Who has ideas for this?!” or “Hey! I need that!”
This is our community as assistants, and where Shawn, Robynn and I are the board/council, we just help move information. You are out in the offices. You make the up the community. It is always nice to have a forum, not only on dental issues but also for community items. Our offices are our sanctuaries, our cliques, but we are a part of a much bigger community, and by networking within that community we would have access to many more resources.
Moving forward we would like to have monthly “classes” open to all assistants. These would be CE courses and would be held in different locales throughout the counties since we service six, to ensure easy access at some point to all. We want to try lunch and learn style sessions. We are in contact with the reps to have supplies/products available during these sessions. These sessions would be a time to showcase new techniques you are trying in your office.
The website would also be utilized in a more open forum manner. Relaying info, possible contests, getting the lines of communication open and flowing between meetings.
- EX) Discussion Points:
- What lab is everyone using? Who is getting the best results? For which cases?
- Composites: Best bang for your buck
- What is everyone using?
- Techniques: EFDA’s: Show & Tell! …with patient permission of course! Post a picture of a restoration you are proud of! Monthly winner for best!
- Cleaning Solutions: This (Caviwipe) or this (What do you use?)
- Is your air conditioning affecting your disinfecting time?
- How many Caviwipes does it take to clean an operatory?
Discussion points like this could be done tastefully and positively. I know we all get excited about our products!
I am excited to see what we can do with this society as we find ways to extend into the community! If anyone has new ideas about how we can help out or where there is a need, please let us know! G. V. Black started our “extension for prevention.” Let us share ways at helping our patients in the grand tradition of preventative dentistry. However, when that is not enough, let us share our best strategies for quick, convenient, courteous patient care. While remaining within the bounds of HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Please send thoughts and suggestions to email@example.com.
